Prosepective Scholars

2023 Scholarship Application Process Is Now Closed and Interviews are Under Way

For Undergraduate Students

The Kennedy-King Memorial Scholarship Fund each spring awards a number of two-year scholarships of $6,000 per year to students who transfer in the fall or spring following the award from Contra Costa County community colleges to junior standing in four-year accredited institutions.

TO QUALIFY FOR A SCHOLARSHIP YOU MUST:

  1. Belong to a minority group under-represented in the California College and University system, principally African- Americans; Americans (North, Central, or South) derived from Spanish speaking cultures; Native Americans; and Pacific Islanders.
  2. Be enrolled for the fall semester prior to the award (or have completed your course work within the past year) at Diablo Valley, Contra Costa, or Los Medanos Colleges. Applicants may not be currently enrolled nor intend to enroll before next June in a four-year college or university.
  3. Be eligible (have sufficient and proper units) to transfer to a four-year institution with junior standing for the next fall term (or at the latest the next spring term) following the award.
  4. Provide evidence of financial need.
  5. Complete and submit on time the application with required attachments.
  6. If selected for interview, you MUST attend the Saturday morning Selection Committee interviews in the spring.

Further applications, instructions and other information related to these scholarships is available under the APPLICATIONS/Undergraduate Application tab of this website while the application process is open.

For Graduate Students

Each year, the Kennedy-King Memorial Scholarship Fund  offers up to six one-year graduate scholarships in the amount of $6,000 each to pursue a graduate degree. To apply and be eligible for the scholarship, you must:

  1. Have been a previous recipient of an undergraduate Kennedy-King scholarship.
  2. Demonstrate financial need.
  3. Complete and submit the application with required attachments, including:
  4. Transcripts of all your college level academic work,
  5. An essay outlining your career goals and why you believe you are deserving of a Kennedy-King graduate scholarship, and
  6. Two completed Personal Reference Forms — one from a college or university professor, and another from an individual who is familiar with your interests and achievements (not a family member).
  7. You must be accepted and enrolled in an academically accredited graduate program leading to a graduate degree. You can apply in subsequent years for additional grants if needed to complete your degree program.

Further applications, instructions and other information related to these scholarships is available under the APPLICATIONS/Graduate Application tab of this website while the application process is open.

Regalia Awards

Kennedy-King provides a number of Regalia Awards  to each of the three community colleges within the Contra Costa Community College District. These $1,000 scholarships are given out to students in great need and in peril of dropping out of school due to financial difficulties and who identify as socially, economically, or educationally disadvantaged. Kennedy-King does not distribute these scholarships directly. Receiving a Regalia Award does not make you eligible for a graduate degree scholarship; you must be a former Kennedy-King undergraduate scholarship recipient.

You will need to contact your DVC, LMC, or CCC scholarship coordinator directly for further information.
